Two days after it snowed four inches we decided to go explore downtown Nashville and see if it really deserves the moniker Nashvegas (I guess some people are trying to call it that). To be fair, we were there midday on a Sunday in early March with temps in the high 40s-low 50s, so I didn’t expect us to see anything real crazy. We began the day by parking across the street from Nissan Stadium and taking the pedestrian bridge across the Cumberland River into downtown. From there we passed the Johnny Cash Museum and then up the famous Broadway where every bar and honkytonk was blasting overplayed classic rock and country music. We then took a bit of a detour and ventured over to the Tennessee State Capitol which sits atop a hill overlooking Nashville. Wanting to make sure we covered all of downtown, we zigzagged up and down the streets as we made our way to the entrance of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Music City Convention Center, and then back across the bridge to our car.
Located nearby is the Nashville Farmers’ Market, which we strolled through, and right next to that is the Tennessee State Museum where we toured exhibits documenting the entire history of Tennessee and the Tennessee area. And located directly across a small road from that is the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park which includes an amphitheater, plaza, WWII memorial, and a great view of the TN State Capitol. The coolest part of this park is the Bicentennial Carillon which plays a portion of the Tennessee Waltz every 15 minutes on its 95 bells (one bell per county).
