Itching to get out of the town and see some nature, we decided to check out a couple of water falls after reading about the dozens of accessible waterfalls Tennessee has to offer. A little over an hour out of town, our first stop was at Cummins Falls State Park where we took a short hike to an lookout area and with a good view of the falls. If you have the right gear and a permit, you can hike up the river to the base of the falls and enjoy the view and refreshing water.
The next stop was at Burgess Falls State Park, about a thirty minute drive from Cummins Falls. Burgess Falls State Park consists of four sets of falls on the Falling Water River that cascade down over 230 feet. As you walk along the trail, each set of falls gets progressively bigger and louder reaching a perfect crescendo upon seeing the final Burgess Falls, a 130 foot raging waterfall depositing large volumes of water in the gorge.
