Great Smoky Mountains National Park

April 7 – 10, 2022

We left Nashville on April 7th and arrived at Great Smoky Mountains National Park at around 6:30 pm local time. We immediately drove up to Newfound Gap where we hiked on the Appalachian Trail and entered North Carolina. Our trip to the Great Smoky Mountains perfectly coincided with a late winter storm that plunged temperatures 20+ degrees and brought snow during our entire stay. That didn’t keep us from going out and enjoying the park though. We spent our last two days at Cade’s Cove driving the scenic loop, checking out old historic buildings, and taking short hikes on the many trails in search of black bears. We witnessed a couple groups of black bears from the scenic loop on day 2 in Cade’s Cove.
