Indianapolis

April 11, 2022

We stopped in Indianapolis for the night with plans to explore the downtown area for a few hours before heading to Chicago. Our plans were slightly delayed when not 2 seconds after packing our last item into the truck, it started downpouring and reducing visibility to four feet. We waited out the storm for about an hour and then proceeded to downtown Indianapolis.

Our first stop was an unplanned visit to the Indiana Statehouse since we just happened to park near there and it wasn’t a disappointment. Because it was a Monday during business hours, we were walking around the Statehouse along with a number of other employees including state senators, house representatives, executive assistants, etc. I don’t know if it was because they don’t get a lot of civilian visitors during the week or if it was because we were comparatively under dressed, but they all gave us weird, awkward glances and didn’t greet us in any of the standard ways. In fact, the only employee to greet us normally was the governor of Indiana himself, Eric Holcomb, when he nodded toward us as we passed each other.

After getting a thorough look at the Statehouse, we ventured into the streets around Monument Circle looking around. We eventually made our way to White River Park, which is right next to the NCAA headquarters, and from there started our walk along the Canal Walk.
