Acadia National Park was one of the first places we marked on the map as a place we had to visit this year. Its reputation, beauty, and remoteness convinced us to make a multiday trip to the park and the surrounding area.

The first day in Acadia NP was a short one. There was poor weather and no parking available at the trails we planned to hike. We ended up taking a stroll along the rocky coast and getting a few pictures from some scenic spots on the road.

Long Pond & Bubble Rock
There are numerous ponds and lakes in Acadia National Park, all very beautiful with clear blue water surrounded by lush forest. We decided to kayak on Long Pond which had a close parking lot and beach we could launch from. The beach was very shallow so we had to forego connecting the stabilizing fins underneath our kayak which made steering a bit more challenging.
After kayaking for a couple hours, we loaded up and drove over to hike the Bubble Rock Trail which ends at the top of a hill that has a giant boulder balancing on the edge of a cliff. It was incredibly scenic with views of the entire park, ocean, and nearby Jordan Pond at the top.

Precipice Trail
The highlight of the trip was definitely our hike up the Precipice Trail. It is a fairly short distance hike but incredibly steep with several sections that are straight up that force you to rock climb or go up ladder rungs hammered into the cliff. There are also a few areas where the trail follows a cliff edge and handrails are present to help keep you from falling over the edge. All that to say it was definitely worth it. The views of the ocean and outlying islands are amazing the entire way up, and the difficulty of successfully executing a full body workout for a couple hours make it a trip to remember.
Cadillac Mountain
Before we departed Acadia NP, we took a quick drive up to the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard. To drive to the top, you do need to book a reservation beforehand on their website.
