One of the cooler attractions along the Freedom Trail is the USS Constitution, one of the first wooden frigates commissioned by the United States. The USS Constitution was launched in 1797 and was heralded for her actions in the War of 1812 where she defeated five British warships. Touring the ship was an eye-opening experience that highlighted just how rough sailors had it over 200 years ago. The ship is still in service so it has a commanding officer and full crew that are present during touring hours and will answer questions about the history, design, or functionality of the ship.
Located across the pier is the decommissioned WWII-era destroyer, USS Cassin Young, which is also open to the public to tour. We took a quick look at that ship before walking through the USS Constitution Museum.
