The Hudson River, like the St. Lawrence River, is a natural wonder that inspires awe and wonder. As one travels up the Hudson River Valley, one is greeted with charming towns that dot its shores, providing a glimpse into the quintessential American experience. Ferries traverse the river, offering tours of the great waterway and its surrounding scenery. On one occasion, Cynthia and I ventured as far north as Nyack and crossed the Tappan Zee Bridge to Tarrytown and Irvington. We launched our kayak from Nyack on an afternoon excursion and paddled out as far as we could before the sun began its descent. At that location, the river is about 3 miles wide and we navigated about a mile across before deciding to return to the dock. A week later, we braved the crowded waterfront in Hoboken and launched our kayak into the windy conditions, with a direct view of Manhattan. Such experiences remind us of the grandeur and beauty of the natural world.
